HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITY AND THE LOCALITY
Mahindi Michaelpattanum is a village in Mudukulathur union, Sivagangai Diocese in Ramnad district. At the request of the Bishop Edward Francis the community was started on July 5th 1990, with Sr. Anita, Sr. Deva, and Sr. Vita Lobo as pioneers.
This village is a catholic village with 200 families. Quite a number of them come for daily Eucharistic celebration. They are hardworking people and their economic condition is not very low. They have an attitude of self-sufficiency. There is scarcity of water facility in and around this area. For all purposes people use the same water which is collected in the pools during rainy season.
Though we were invited to this village because of the need for the medical facility, the sisters answer the needs of the milieu through their active participation in pastoral, social, educational and medical apostolate. We extended our services to the neighboring villages too through our medical and social work.
5th July 1990 the sisters started their mission staying in a rented house in the village till the new convent was built. They gave their services in medical work, forming women’s groups and taking tuition for the children.
18th August 1993 the blessing of the new convent building was held. The sisters moved to the new convent on 15th September 1993.
From 15th September 1993 onwards the health centre started functioning on regular basis. The people of this area were very happy to have the sisters and the medical facilities in their village. Sisters were loved by the people.
The parish priest Rev. Fr. Arul Jeeva was very co-operative. He was involved in a movement known as “working people’s liberation movement”, which works irrespective of caste, creed, religion and party. With the permission of the Provincial Sr. Assunta Alvares, Sr. Anita accepted to work in this movement to give awareness to the people about their rights. Sr. Anita was chosen as an executive member of the committee called “Labour Commission” of the diocese.
May 1991 Sr. Leema Josphine joined community and she rendered her service in the diocesan school as one of the staff. With her selfless service she brought up the standard of the school which was going down.
All the sisters fully involved in the pastoral work- teaching catechism, partaking in the liturgy, preparing children for first Holy Communion, regular house visits etc.

We are teaching them catechism, moral values and extracurricular activities. The students experience love and care of our sisters. The little ones come to school joyfully and their enthusiasm makes us grow younger. Knowing each child the background of the families personally sisters help and guide to trust in God.
