History of Krupanilaym

Krupa Nilayam, Kurnool
Community Members - 2025

The Krupanilayam community in Kurnool was blessed and Inagurated by Most Rev. Dr. Gorantla Johannes the Bishop of Kurnool on 26th May 1999. The pioneers were Srs. Mary Magdaline, Rose Marie Saldanha and Lilly Lobo. The community is situated in the premises of the pastoral centre.  On the land is given by the Diocese. The main plan of the Province is receiving the candidates from Andhra Pradesh, facilitate their study and for others as a come and see opportunity.

The history of Kurnool is unique and rich. The town of Kurnool was once the capital of ‘Nawabs’ and the first capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. In Kurnool about 80% of people are agriculturalist, agricultural workers and stone quarry workers. The majority of the people in this area are local inhabitants of the Telugu culture. 84% of the people speak Telugu. The Muslims migrated from the neighboring states make up about 10%.

Sr. Rose Marie Saldanha, worked in the office of the Bishops house for Christian, foundation for children and aged (CFCA). All the poor boarding houses in the diocese were under this project, maintained accounts and documents under the direction of the Bishop. Sr. Lilly Lobo worked in the catholic relief services (CRS) in Kurnool Diocese Social Service Society (KDSSS) as a coordinator. She organized programs in 78 villages with the main thrust on women and children. Sr. Magdaline took care of the house and other needs of the community, she was also responsible for vocation promotion in Andhra Pradesh.

2001 the Province began sending candidates of Andhra Pradesh to do their pre degree course in St. Joseph’s College Kurnool. This mission continued with great hope for the future of the Institute.  From 2016 the Province is the community to provide free hostel for 5 poor catholic students who are orphans and semi orphans.

Every milestone in the history of any institution is an occasion for looking back and looking forward. Looking back with gratitude to God for all that has been achieved, looking forward with an urge to go ahead with courage and strength in God, for the challenging task ahead. On August 10th 2024 we celebrated the mile stone of 25 years of grace and mercy. We are conscious that these gifts and blessings that have come to us through the labour and the dedication of our sisters, who have served God as best as they could and now, we continue to reap the inheritance of their good work and on that auspicious   day we thanked God for each sister of our SJT family who lived in this house of grace, through their very presence and committed life. As we march forward we trust in God’s plans and Providence.

They face a lot of pressure from school, family, society, friends etc. school is 2nd home for the children and it is an institution like family for their education. As the family has the responsibility to prepare and produce children for the future society, even the school has the responsibility to reproduce children for the social benefits. School can provide a conductive environment which will enable children to innovate and change. School can also provide them experiences which can mould them for their future endeavours.

Sr.Latha has been appointed as counselor in Indus school, to help and assist the students in identifying and cultivating their intellectual strengths and personal attitudes as they explore themselves for their future. Some of the problems of the students are Anxiety, Stress, Low self-esteem Anger, Slow learning Depression, Emotional imbalance, suicidal tendencies, unhealthy relationships, Parental separation and divorce.

It is a great opportunity and responsibility to mould the characters of the students for their better future. Students are constantly supported to develop the skills of critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, self reflection and effective communication, specially allowing them to develop an increased sense of security, competence and maturity.
