Brief History of the Community
Loyola health centre was started by the Jesuits of Pannur-Manvi Mission in 2009. Jesuits of Karnataka Province found that many children were dying of snake bite and other diseases. Women were easily prone to diseases like cancer, HIV infected and T.B. Due to lack of transport facilities and distance to primary health centres women were finding difficult during child birth. It was mainly to tackle various health problems of Pannur and surrounding villages where people do not have health care facilities they opened the Health centre. Jagir Pannur is 19 kilometers away from Manvi. Since the medical care needed the presence of the dedicated staff, this health centre was entrusted to our care i.e. the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes of Mysore Province
27thJune 2010 is a red-letter day in the history of the mission which marked the initiation of the healing ministry of four pioneers Sr. Gracy Fernandez, Sr. Juliana D’souza, Sr. Vita Lobo and Sr. Velangani Priya, who solemnly and meaningfully assumed charge during the Sunday liturgy at Pannur parish and the function thereafter. Loyola Health Centre at Pannur was inaugurated on 12 August 2010 by the Jesuit Provincial of Karnataka province in the presence of about 2000 people from Pannur and neighboring villages. This event was a major step in the right direction of providing medical aid to Dalits and other poor people of the locality.

Apostolate
Loyola Heath Centre
Loyola Health Centre was started in the year 2010 by our pioneering two nurses, Sr. Juliana D’souza and Sr. Gracy Fernandes. The first administrator was Sr. Sr.Juliana D’souza then Sr. Shanthi and at present Sr. Leena Pais. The motto of the health centre is “REACHING THE UNREACHED”.
The following incident truly traumatized the Jesuits which lead them to start the healing ministry:
One day at night, a woman in her birth pangs was on her way on a bullock cart to the hospital at Manvi. The road was in a very bad state with scores of potholes all along. The woman who was in labour pain was thrown out of the cart due to an accident, resulting the woman to give birth to the baby on the road and tragically both the mother and the child died. The Jesuit priests who had a dream of building a hospital in Pannur, heard about the incident and also to address the various issues pertaining to health care of Pannur and surrounding villages which lacked basic medical amenities, built the Health Centre.
The sisters were working under the administration of Jesuits in the health centre from 2010 to 2013. The administration of the health centre was handed over to us completely from 2013 and we have been taking care of the health care ministry in and around Jagir Pannur since then independently and yet in collaboration with them.

Loyola Kapepaladi School
Loyola Kapepaladi School was founded in 2009 and is managed by the Jesuits with the help of our sisters. Loyola Kapepaladi School comes under the management of the Centre for Non-Formal and Continuing Education Manvi. It started as a school for the less privileged children from the rural villages who could not afford to go to Manvi for education.
Two sisters have been working since the beginning; one of them as Head Mistress and the other as a teacher. Presence of our sisters in the school is a blessing for the children as they focus on the total development of every child and motivate the teachers to be dedicated and committed to the teaching through their very presence and dedication. The first headmistress was Sr. Ida D’souza, thereafter Sr. Philomena D’souza , Sr. Reena Pavithra and at present Sr. Selina Mary.
