History of the community Prema jyothi.kadur
On the 2nd July 1972 a house was opened in Kadur. It was named Prema Jyothi Convent because the main purpose of this community was to radiate Christ’s love and His light to all the people through their service. It was a centre of Social work and Community development.
Kadur is a vast taluk with the population of over mostly Hindus ,Muslims and a very few Christians who are economically poor. To uplift these poor people and empower them became a primary mission of the community.
Rev. Fr Joe Mary Lobo the parish priest of Kadur requested Rt.Rev.Dr Alphonse Mathias and Rev.Mother Maurice to open a convent at Kadur. With discernment the province decided to establish a community with four pioneers Sisters Michael ,Rosline ,Magdalene and Theresa Lobo. The parish priest vacated his house in order to accommodate these sisters and helped them in their mission. Hence the sisters were able to start the apostolate on the 2nd July 1972.Inorder to support the mission the sisters started the Nursery and the Primary school. Through visiting the people in slums and streets the sisters attracted the children through songs, stories, reading and writing.Hygene and discipline was taught to the children. The sisters supported the people in serving their earnings and cultivate healthy habbits. The sisters associating with other clubs like Rotary enhanced their mission. The sisters were kind enough to identify the mal nourished , pregnant and nursing mothers and rendered a helping hand through the Parish priest along with CARITAS India. Food for Work , Mother and Child programmed and Adult Education helped the hundreds of people. A Tailoring centre was started with 32 girls responding kept growing over the years. The school kept growing and now reached upto 10th std bearing the name Prema Jyothi Convent School. The tiny seed planted in 1972 has grown bearing fruits of 50 years. Now the sisters are actively involved in Educationd and Pastoral work and answer the needs of the locality.
Graciously we remember the mighty hand of God leading us in all ups and down of life and blessing us with His sufficient grace. we remember and cherish the great sacrifice and hard work of our pioneers and sisters.
MAY GOD BLESS OUR ENDEVOURS.
