Dear Friends,

Welcome to the website of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes, Mysore Province.

It is truly a wonderful means of communication to share our Vision, Mission, and Charism of our Congregation with everyone. “The Spirit of God blows where it wills.” God’s ways are not our ways. He makes all things possible and works wonders in the lives of those who love Him. Our Holy Foundresses experienced great happiness as they found themselves together in the community on the eve of the Assumption of our Blessed Mother. Thus, the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes was founded on 15th August 1843 in a small hamlet called Cantaous in the Diocese of Tarbes in Southern France.

What is remarkable about our foundation is that six young peasant girls from the same village were inspired at the same time to consecrate themselves to God in religious life. Though their dream and initial idea was to live the ideal of Great Carmel, soon they yielded to the request of the people to educate their children and to look after the sick. They saw the will of God in the wishes of the people and, at the call of Obedience, they eagerly went wherever they were called to answer the needs of the people. “To love Him and make Him loved” was the only desire of our Foundresses. So, they were ready to suffer and to love in order to more surely find HIM whom they had come to seek.

To live and build Communion in the image of the Holy Trinity is the Charism we derive from the life of our Foundresses.

Hence, we strive to make our Charism of Communion transparent through our life of prayer, fraternal living in the community, and the various services we render to people in need, according to the signs of the time.

I pray that as individuals, communities, and in the place of our ministries, we truly become agents of Communion through our lives of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

May the zeal to live our Charism be revealed as we pray along with Jesus to the Father, “Father, may they be one, just as You and I are one.”

Let each of us take up this mission of building communion, which is very much relevant today.
